Maximum technically permissible laden mass
From 1 December 2023, the maximum technically permissible laden mass and no longer the maximum permissible weight will be decisive for the toll obligation. Vehicles with a technically permissible total mass of more than 3.5 tonnes are subject to the mileage-based toll obligation. For this purpose, a GO-Box or another on-board unit authorised for the GO toll in Austria is required.
Info
The maximum technically permissible laden mass can be found in field F.1 of the registration certificate.
The following transitional regulation applies to vehicles with a technically permissible total mass over 3.5 tonnes and a maximum permissible total weight up to and including 3.5 tonnes, which previously had to pay the time-based car toll (vignette and route toll):
Transitional regulation
Motor vehicles with a technically permissible total weight of more than 3.5 t and a first registration date before 1 December 2023, for which the maximum permissible total weight was also set at no more than 3.5 t before 1 December 2023, are subject to the vignette and section toll obligation until 31 January 2029. Motor vehicles with an initial registration date from 01.12.2023 must pay the mileage-based HGV toll.
Check the information on the technically permissible maximum laden mass in the registration certificate in field F.1 and, if necessary, obtain a GO-Box or another vehicle device authorised for the GO toll in Austria.
